Of course I end up injuring myself 3 weeks before we leave for our trip. Sprained ankle. First time in my 29 year life. And it was from running down some stairs trying to catch a train on a rainy day. Estimated recovery: 4-6 weeks. The timing couldn’t have been worse. On the bright side, it wasn’t a fracture!

I’ve been in a walking boot for two weeks. The doctor has warned that there is a high risk of getting a stress fracture walking more than 2 miles in the first week out of the boot (which I’m hopping to get out of the day before I start the trip). I was originally planning on doing a short 2 day trek to Machu Picchu the 4th day of my trip…

So I’m playing it by ear. I don’t want to be injured for the rest of the trip so I’d rather be safe early on. Also, luckily there are other ways to get up to Machu Picchu. I just need to find out if the trekking company will let me change the trek to a train tour.

I will probably be in a ankle brace for the rest of my trip. And I’ll have to do my own physical therapy. Hope it heels fast and doesn’t cause further injury.
